Maybe time is like a snowdrift. Spring
Opens up its secrets. And perhaps
There you find what you've been looking for.
Harsh winters wait, of course, but there are more
Ecstasies than sorrows under wraps,
Retained in drifts till their awakening.

God Took The Strength Of A Mountain,
The Majesty Of A Tree,
The Warmth Of A Summer Sun,
The Calm Of A Quiet Sea,
The Generous Soul Of Nature,
The Comforting Arm Of Night,
The Wisdom Of The Ages,
The Power Of The Eagle’s Flight,
The Joy Of A Morning In Spring,
The Faith Of A Mustard Seed,
The Patience Of Eternity,
The Depth Of A Family Need,
Then God Combined These Qualities,
When There Was Nothing More To Add,
He Knew His Masterpiece Was Complete,
And So, He Called It … Dad

Mere happiness is not the song I'm singing:
Of mothers' joy a jagged piece is pain.
To love is to be amply burdened, bringing
Hearts with gifts to an uncharted plain.
Even so, one longs to be a mother,
Remembering a richness unreserved
‘Ere one could barely recognize another,
Sustained by love unsought and undeserved.
Deeper than oneself is one's communion,
A revelation reached alone by union
Yet yearned for, though through years of love well served

A Mother’s love, is sure to find
A way to comfort, ease your mind
She knows just how, to build you up
When you’re so down, and can’t look up
You love the way, she makes you feel
Like you’re so special, her ideal
Her thought must start, with God above
To bring such caring, with such love
And as it flows, like gentle rain
It surely helps, when troubles pain
The love from mine, is oh so clear
I only wish, she was still here
Her warming glow, is missed each day
Even though, I seldom say
But she did leave, her gift behind
To help me through, when I may pine
And that’s the feel, known deep inside
Her faith and love, I still confide

MY ROCK
(Mom)
Sometimes I catch myself
Thinking, “When I phone,
I can talk of this or that!”
Then remember, I'm alone.
She was always there
To answer my calls -
To listen to my “small talk”
Or when I climbed the walls.
At times, I didn't feel like talking
And somehow, she understood -
Didn't say she wished I'd call
Or make me feel like I should.
Now, I wish I would have
More times, to show I cared -
To say, just how important
Were, all those times we shared.
I could have shown my love
So much more than I did -
I never, did it enough
Even when I was a kid.
Now it's too late to do or say
All those things I wish I had -
No way to ease the pain inside
When my heart is sad.
She was my “anchor” to this life -
The “rock”, that I clung to -
The place, where I could turn
When, nowhere else would do.
Now, the ravages of time
Have worn my “rock” away -
And all I have to cling to
Are memories of yesterday.

What Makes a Dad
God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so,
He called it … Dad

How beautifully the rushing glass,
All molten gold across the stones,
Pours into pools of cloud and sky,
Paints a scrim across the deep.
Yesterday the milky grass
Made a blanket for the bones
Of all the birds who questioned why,
Trilling wonder in their cheep.
How magically the morning brass
Eases our phantasmic moans,
Ripples salmon in the eye
‘Ere the gauzy end of sleep.
So, too, the syllables that pass
Directly over silent thrones,
And thoughts that, graceful, slide right by
Yon mysteries that dragons keep.

For me, two mothers aren't one too many:
One's for real, and one's for other things.
Remember: there are those who haven't any,
Missing their one chance at angel's wings.
You're the one most free to mother me,
Giving without worrying I'll be spoiled.
Often my real mother “has to see,”
Dreading I might get my future soiled.
More than just an aunt, what's in your heart
Opens doors within where I can go
To learn the difficult and gentle art
Happiness embraces those who know.
Each moment that you love me makes me whole:
Rare is she who can so grace a role.
